Opportunities

Uganda - Meet People There (Virtually)

The Café
The Café has a specific need for volunteers to help on 1st Sundays to setup the fellowship hall from 7:45 - 9 am once a month. Please call Sandy at 693-6731 or email her.

Five Day Clubs This Summer

Consider Hosting a 5-Day Club this Summer. We are partnering with Child Evangelism Fellowship to offer 5 - Day Clubs June 16 - 20, 2:30 - 3:30 pm. Children’s Ministry Needs Help This Summer

Many teachers and volunteers who serve during the school year take a break for the summer, which leaves many openings.  If you are willing to help even once or twice in June, July, or August, please sign up behind the CM Welcome Table!

The Quilt Ministry

The Quilt Ministry needs volunteers to help assemble quilts for friends who need tangible comfort. We could use extra hands for machine sewing, ironing, pinning, etc. No experience is necessary to join in the fun! For details, please contact Amy Fitzgerald at (828)551-3612.

Grace Foothills Cafe

The Grace Foothills Cafe needs volunteers. The Cafe serves good coffee and amazing bagels and doughnuts. Volunteers are needed to setup, serve, and clean up the cafe each week. If you have a passion for all things coffee and want to serve the cafe, contact Rick or Sabra Kleinau at 859-0116.

Graduates

High school and college graduates, please sign the graduate list at the Information Desk so your Grace family can rejoice with you in your wonderful accomplishment.

ESL Begins
Grace will soon have an English as Second Language program as a missions outreach. Anyone wishing to attend should call the office (891-2006) to register. All ages are invited, and child care will be provided. Volunteers are welcome!

WaterShed Mission Trip Fundraiser
Thirty members of The Youth Mission Team are going to Dalton, GA, June 7-14, and are raising funds. We set up a job board on the hallway wall by the kitchen where you can either post a job you would like to have done or where you can pull names and numbers of students who would like to get hired to raise their mission money. We ask that the pay is at least $8/hr and each job is at least 3 hours long.

Tech
We are in desperate need of volunteers to run slides and to run lights for worship. If you can serve once a month please let Dusty McNabb know you are interested. She will train you.

Hendersonville Group
Grace Hendersonville has started meeting on Sunday evenings from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. at West First Pizza. They are studying the book of Galatians. All are welcome. If you are interested, contact Bobby & Sally Ward at 693-1064.

Website Page Creation and Design

We are looking to expand our capabilities for information and art in this increasingly important medium. Volunteers are needed to serve as greeters on Sunday mornings. Responsibilities include welcoming people, handing out bulletins, helping people find a seat and assisting with the attendance count. For more information or to volunteer contact Jerry Hills at 691-0576 or Martha.hills@mchsi.com.

Deacon Giving
The Deacons are humbled and privileged to come alongside those who are hurting or in need to provide assistance – “to care for orphans and widows in their distress” or “give a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name.” This year, because your extensive and generous giving, the Deacons were able to give more than $30,000 to help those in need. The aid went to care for people in crisis, battling disease, and/or struggling financially.

Being a mercy ministry, the Diaconate considers that all cases and transactions are confidential. Any figures stated in this memo are ballpark figures. The diaconate budget at the beginning of each fiscal year (Sept. 1) is $4000.00. Over the past four years, through the incredible generosity of the body at Grace, we have spent approximately $25-30,000.00 each year!!  We DEPEND on that continued generosity.

Whatever is left over in late August, we vote on how that is to be spent. For instance, in late August of 2006, we divided the balance between a gift to Grace Biltmore, a sum for Ingles food and gas cards, a designated account for housing and utilities, and a designated account for auto repair.  (The designated accounts are rollover accounts because these needs tend to be more critical and urgent than others which I will delineate below.) You will see that, for the most part,  the diaconate deals in crisis management; generally short and sometimes long term. When appropriate the Diaconate refers those in need to  agencies such as: Interfaith  (in Hendersonville), WCC, and  Angel Food.

CATEGORIES

Home Maintenance and Repair:

Fire and flood damage; cleaning out and rebuilding foundations
New roofing and flooring
Other interior remodeling such as creation of a new room in an existing structure for a care-giver

Rent and Mortgage payment:

Typically short-term, but a crisis matter (like loss of employment)

Utilities:

Heating and electricity; again a crisis matter

Medical Bills:

Due to lack of or lapsed medical insurance; usually a large item

Insurance:

Automobile (short term)  (when their policy would otherwise lapse)

Food and Gasoline:

Ingles coupons which can be used for both food and gas

Counseling:

We recommend that recipients take the  Crown Financial class.  We provide a financial counselor who works with them on their budget.

Donated vehicles (from 5-7 per year)

Vehicles are given anonymously, inspected by a local garage for road-worthiness, and turned over to the person who is in need.

All recipients must fill out a financial aid statement as fully as possible and submit it to the office before any action can be taken.

All bills (utility, rent, etc.) are paid directly by the office to the business or company owed. Ingles cards are held in the office for short-term crises dispersement.

One can contribute to this mercy ministry by contributing to Grace Community Church by specifying Diaconate on the memo line.
