Grace Centre, Grace Community Church's state-of-the-art sanctuary and venue for the arts. |
Dim the lights, cue the slides, start the music. Grace Tech is an indispensable part of Grace Centre, Grace Community Church's sanctuary, gathering place and arts center. Grace's technicians meet regularly and are always looking towards
Involvement
Grace Tech meets every Monday night from 6:30-7:30 PM at Grace. The first hour, all the art teams meet together in the auditorium for community and study. The second hour, teams meet in separate rooms to work on upcoming projects. Grace Tech meets with Visions of Grace (visual arts team) in Rm # 204. Anyone with a passion for the technical arts and a desire to serve is welcome to attend. However, training is required for involvement in worship and events. Training schedules vary depending on the area being trained and the level of experience. Training consists of a trial period in which the leader and artist being trained discern the area best suited to serve. Once training and placement is completed, the technical artist will worked into the worship schedule and eventually into events. For more information on the technical arts team, contact Craig by e-mail or at the church office (828)891-2006.
Vision
The use of technical arts at Grace(sound, video, lights, stage management etc.) is our opportunity to offer a portion of the abilities God has given us back to Him as an artistic offering that can be used for His purpose. The technical arts are used in worship services and outreach events with the same primary goal; to enhance the communication of the truths of the gospel.
Worship Services
In worship services, the technical arts are used to enhance the theme of the service and lead someone to worship Christ. We strive to produce excellent, current technical arts that point someone to Christ. If the art produced only draws attention to itself, it failed. If it leads someone to worship Christ, it was excellent art. Typically, we begin planning the use of technical arts about 2 weeks out. We take into account the theme, art teams involved, and the elements that will be used, and then begin to coordinate how the technical arts can be used to enhance that service. We realize we can not plan for everything. That things will go wrong and only The Holy Spirit can make a worship service effective. However, we are still committed to excellence because it is a sacrifice to God.
Outreach Events
In outreach events, the technical arts are used to enhance a theme designed to lead someone to seek Christ. The purpose here is to produce excellent, current technical arts that may be used by The Holy Spirit to stir someone to consider Christ. Outreach events are a better opportunity to take bigger risks with technical arts because the main idea is to lead someone seek. It is easier in events to be more creative and current because distraction of worship is not usually an issue. Depending on the type of event, we brainstorm, book artists and/or select material needed begins about 6 months to 1 year out. Times, practice schedules, and technical artists needed are then coordinated about 6-8 weeks out. The amount of practices needed will vary depending on the size and type of event.
