Story by Jim Pearce
Eclectic but wonderful. I have had the privilege of taking many teams to many places in the world but this definitely was the most diverse group. Many on the team came from backgrounds where man-made religion had hurt them deeply. It was very refreshing to see honest seekers of Jesus who don't want to play games. The group talked about how easy it is to "join the parade" of Christian actions and behavior and miss out on the reality of Jesus going with us into our pain and healing as He sends us out IN OUR WEAKNESS to care for others.
I watched introverts who could hide behind their cameras come out and genuinely love others on the team and the people in Honduras. I watched religious people have their boats rocked by those whose attitude is, 'If this is not real let's pack our bags and go home' (not just from Honduras but from playing religious games). I saw people with painful memories from their youth bring their hurts into the light and find the body of Christ there to comfort them.
On this trip I began to see the fruit of four years of going to the same place and building deep relationships. Grace's relationship with Pastor Yobani Alas and the staff of the Orphanage has deepened to the point where they are beginning to really trust us and believe that we, as Americans, are not there to push them around and tell them what to do. We more clearly understand one another's vision. This only comes with time and trust. What a blessing to see true indigenous missions starting to happen, 'Helping Hondurans help Hondurans.'
I hope you enjoy the slideshow that follows. Our team included 22 people, including 11 artists - videographers, photographers, and writers.
