2 Corinthians 10:1-6NIV
|
| 2Cor 10:1-6: Paul reluctantly exercises his authority and argues in an unusual way to make the Corinthian church a safe place. He speaks mainly to the large majority that have reaffirmed their faith and their love for him. But he is also speaking to a smaller opposing faction and perhaps to their leaders who are still causing trouble. Paul uses spiritual 'weapons' of truth, honesty, openness, humility, prayer, and faith in the Holy Spirit's work to pull down his proud, boasting and greedy opponents and to build the church into a safe place for unity and faith. |

Call To Worship:
Psalm 23:1-6
All: The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

John 10:14-18
Leader: I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also.
All: They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.
Leader: The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again.
All: This command I received from my Father."

Questions
|
- Paul was not oppressive in his leadership of the Corinthians. Rather, his authority was exercised through the gentleness of relationship. What impact might gentleness and meekness in leadership (rather than oppressive leadership) have on a relationship? A group? A church?
- How does Paul's example present protective leadership as a healthy and beneficial thing?
- Who or what are the protective relationships in your own life? For whom are you a protective person?
- Do you struggle to keep issues (political, social, relational) from being the focus of your relationships? How does this struggle affect the people in your life?
- The central emphasis at Grace Church is the gospel, and our leadership bears the responsibility for protecting that central emphasis and the community of relationships. The care communities are designed to reflect this central emphasis as well. What is it like to be part of a group where the gospel is the driving focus? Or, what's it like to be in a group where a minor point/small issue is the central focus of the entire time together?
