Candidates are nominated by members of the congregation who have seen spiritual qualities and leadership ability in them. The qualifications given to us in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 provide guidance for that assessment. The elders then solicit personal recommendations from folks in the body about the candidate and interview them. If it is mutually decided to continue toward training, there is usually a process of at least 6 months to a year. In addition to sound theology, leaders in training also must demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of our philosophy of ministry and the vision of our church, maturity in character, qualities of a servant-leader, the support of their spouse and family, an eagerness to serve, an ability to work with a team and some knowledge of the office. The training is personal in that it is largely done one-on-one, with an occasional group meeting, and is also tailored so they don’t have to repeat areas where they are already strong. When training is completed the elders decide as a group whether the candidate is ready to stand for election with their approval and recommendation. It is then up to the congregation to decide at a congregation meeting whether to accept that recommendation and receive each candidate as one of their leaders. The following Candidates will be voted into Office on September 18 & 19:
Session ReportThe session is made up of the elected elders that oversee the congregation and direction of the church. The Finance Committee is made up of selected elders and the Finance Director. Each group meets monthly and these are a few of the areas they have been addressing recently: Final approval was given for the 2010-11 budgets for each congregation. Details will be forthcoming. Congregational business will be conducted on the weekend of September 18-19. New officer candidates will be presented for election at that time. Information about them will be provided in the preceding weeks. Currently there are 10 deacons and assistant deacons in training and 1 elder. Reports were received from the congregations and committees. An elder vision planning retreat was set for Nov. 12-13.
