Office Helpers Needed
This volunteer part-time position exists to welcome and assist the public when they call or come in the office and to provide support to the Office Administrator and Core Ministry Leaders. For details, please contact Minty at mintynorris@gmail.com or 891-2006 x118.
Recycle Candle Wax
Help create candles used on the stage in the auditorium by recycling every scrap of wax and containers. Hundreds of pounds of reusable wax goes to waste, which our resident candle crafter can reformulate into new light. Throughout the year, put any candle materials in the flip top, plastic box beside the information desk.
Welcome Teams
These teams help serve to connect others during weekend services. We are looking for people who would like to serve once a month for no more than an hour in the following areas: Information desk, greeters, tape and CD ministry, the connect room and communion for Saturday night. If you think you could help in one of these areas, please fill out a connect card and drop it in the offering box or contact the office at 891-2006.
Beth Robinson
If you would like to be a part of helping sponsor Beth Robinson and her
ministry in Japan, you may write your check to Grace and earmark it
“Japan Missions”.
Envelopes for Donations
The envelopes at the offering boxes are for cash only donations. If you are giving to Grace in the form of a check, you may drop it directly in the box without an envelope. Please make sure your address is correct (or corrected) on the check and note in the memo line the specific ministry you are giving to if other than the general fund. Thank you for your continued support of the ministries at Grace.
Motorcycle Community
Jim Bolin and Cline Lambert have started a motorcycle group that meets regularly for group riding and community. Rides will take place either on Saturdays or Sunday afternoons. This group is open to non-riders as well. To indicate your interest or to get more information fill out a connect card or contact Jim (606-2130 or jebolin10@mchsi.com).
First Responders
As part of Grace’s Emergency Operating Plan, we are looking for people to volunteer as first responders in the event of an emergency. For more information, or if you are interested in serving, please contact Minty at 891-2006 ext. 118 or mintynorris@gmail.com.
Visitation Volunteers
Do you have a heart for visiting people who are sick or in the hospital? If you have questions or are available to provide this type of care, please contact Regan Wilds at mrswilds@gmail.com.
Website Page Creation and Design
Grace’s website currently averages more than 200 visitors and 1,000 page hits daily -- and those numbers are growing! We are looking to expand our capabilities for information and art in this increasingly important medium. If you are familiar with Dreamweaver and/or Flash and would like to help with creating some cutting-edge web pages and design, please contact Rob Wilkins (inkling@mchsi.com or 489-9896).
Deacon Giving
The Deacons are humbled and privileged to come alongside those who are hurting or in need to provide assistance – “to care for orphans and widows in their distress” or “give a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name.” This year, because your extensive and generous giving, the Deacons were able to give more than $30,000 to help those in need. The aid went to care for people in crisis, battling disease, and/or struggling financially.
Being a mercy ministry, the Diaconate considers that all cases and transactions are confidential. Any figures stated in this memo are ballpark figures. The diaconate budget at the beginning of each fiscal year (Sept. 1) is $4000.00. Over the past four years, through the incredible generosity of the body at Grace, we have spent approximately $25-30,000.00 each year!! We DEPEND on that continued generosity.
Whatever is left over in late August, we vote on how that is to be spent. For instance, in late August of 2006, we divided the balance between a gift to Grace Biltmore, a sum for Ingles food and gas cards, a designated account for housing and utilities, and a designated account for auto repair. (The designated accounts are rollover accounts because these needs tend to be more critical and urgent than others which I will delineate below.) You will see that, for the most part, the diaconate deals in crisis management; generally short and sometimes long term. When appropriate the Diaconate refers those in need to agencies such as: Interfaith (in Hendersonville), WCC, and Angel Food.
CATEGORIES
Home Maintenance and Repair:
Fire and flood damage; cleaning out and rebuilding foundations
New roofing and flooring
Other interior remodeling such as creation of a new room in an existing structure for a care-giver
Rent and Mortgage payment:
Typically short-term, but a crisis matter (like loss of employment)
Utilities:
Heating and electricity; again a crisis matter
Medical Bills:
Due to lack of or lapsed medical insurance; usually a large item
Insurance:
Automobile (short term) (when their policy would otherwise lapse)
Food and Gasoline:
Ingles coupons which can be used for both food and gas
Counseling:
We recommend that recipients take the Crown Financial class. We provide a financial counselor who works with them on their budget.
Donated vehicles (from 5-7 per year)
Vehicles are given anonymously, inspected by a local garage for road-worthiness, and turned over to the person who is in need.
All recipients must fill out a financial aid statement as fully as possible and submit it to the office before any action can be taken.
All bills (utility, rent, etc.) are paid directly by the office to the business or company owed. Ingles cards are held in the office for short-term crises dispersement.
One can contribute to this mercy ministry by contributing to Grace Community Church by specifying Diaconate on the memo line.
